Around July last year I began the process of scaling back the layout by removing the middle layer. I really liked the tiers but it basically left no open spaces to build in. I also planned to move the entire mountain display, including the castle, over to the other corner of the room. I tried to document as much of the process as possible.
It was a really hot summer and the Lego room basically turned into a sauna which made everything 10x more difficult. I made pretty good progress though and once the boards were up and out of the way I got on with starting to move the buildings and re-lay the track. I decided early on to keep the double loop, so I can at least still have two trains running with no intervention. I had to wait a bit for some R56 curves to arrive, which was my first foray into wider radius track. It makes such a big difference!
